In Victoria's temperatures dropped from a scorching top of 40C in the late afternoon 14 januari to just 15 C on 15 januari 2016!

Melburnians and visitors alike have taken to social media to comment on the extreme swing in conditions.

However, such a change was not particularly unusual, Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) forecaster Peter Blake said.

He said the state normally experienced similar severe variations in temperature about once a year.

"You have to bear in mind that you can get snow in Victoria any time of the year," he said.
